Social Media Registry
The Social Media Registry is a tool to keep track of social media accounts managed by federal agencies. It helps the public identify “official” federal social media accounts and helps agencies manage their social media efforts. The public-facing side is hosted on USA.gov and GobiernoUSA.gov, and the agency-facing side is hosted here. The Social Media Registry also offers a series of APIs to allow developers build applications with the data from the registry. Here is the full documentation of the APIs. Using the API, GSA built embeddable Twitter Widgets to aggregate tweets from across federal agencies and by topic. These widgets demonstrate the power of the Registry and the API—so anyone can access content from across thousands of federal social media accounts, updated in real-time.
Register Your Account
If you work for the U.S. federal government and have a .gov or .mil email address, use this tool to register social media accounts managed by federal agencies (including accounts for elected officials, heads of agencies or Cabinet members). Any registered accounts should have been created under federal-compatible Terms of Service (TOS). If they weren’t, contact your agency Point of Contact, to bring accounts into compliance with federal law.
The Social Media Registry only includes accounts that represent official U.S. government agencies, organizations, or programs. You can register accounts managed by federal agencies, elected officials (not campaign accounts), heads of agencies or members of the President’s Cabinet. Do not enter personal, employee, or other types of accounts.

Background and Embed Instructions
Each of the below widgets is populated by the Social Media Registry. The Registry’s API updates a series of Twitter Lists, which in turn offer widgets for the below sets of Twitter accounts. To embed any of the below lists as a widget on your site, create a Twitter account and subscribe to the list that you want to embed. Then, visit the widget page in your settings and create a new widget for this list. The instructions and options on this page will allow you to specify widget size, design, and more.
