Deconstructing Challenges

Deconstructing Challenges

July 23 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
A blank figure stops a collapse of dominos

When going about solving any big problem, it’s easier to break it into a series of small, more easily achievable pieces. In federal public prize competitions, the same applies; so why not award prizes for each piece? Join us for a DigitalGov University & Challenge.gov webinar focusing on deconstruction of challenges with Jason Zeiler of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Andy LaMora of TopCoder, who will discuss the thought behind “atomizing” the CMS “Healthcare Fraud Prevention Partnership” (HFPP) challenge, which was broken down into 55 smaller challenges, each of which anyone could enter.

Measuring the Impact of Your User Experience Program

Measuring the Impact of Your User Experience Program

July 24 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

User Experience (UX) is a continuously evolving field and is becoming more prominent in the federal space. To continue this positive momentum it will be important to clearly communicate the value of these user experience programs. How do you demonstrate the effectiveness of your program? How do you measure success? These are all good questions without a simple answer. In this session, team members from OPM’s USAJOBS Program will discuss measures they have put in place to accurately track their usability testing program.

MobileGov Code Chop Shop: Help Department of Labor Share Their App Functionality Gov-wide

MobileGov Code Chop Shop: Help Department of Labor Share Their App Functionality Gov-wide

July 29 @ 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
event-featured-210-x-150-mobile-codesharing-21-350x214

Many agencies have shared their Mobilegov code on the Mobile Code Sharing Catalog. That’s a great first step, but wouldn’t it be great if you could easily grab just the code for a particular piece of the app’s functionality? That’s the challenge we want to tackle in our first Mobilegov code chop shop. We will get some sharp developers in a room, cut a federal app up into highly reusable parts (this time Department of Labor’s HeatSafety App), and post the code on the MobileGov Code Sharing Catalog for anyone to use.

Challenge, Contract, or Grant? Knowing When Prize Competitions are the Right Choice

Challenge, Contract, or Grant? Knowing When Prize Competitions are the Right Choice

July 29 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
A directional sign post with 3 options: This way, That way, and Another way

So you’ve got a problem. You know you have to find a way to solve it, somehow, but which method is appropriate? Which will give you the best result? Join us for a DigitalGov University & Challenge.gov webinar where we’ll discuss how to assess which method would work best to solve your problem: challenge (public prize competition), contract, or grant? Samuel Ortega of the NASA Centennial Challenges program will be on hand to discuss the thought process he goes through in order to decide which method NASA uses for solutions.
